The new year’s resolutions to boost your happiness in 2018

Hydrate With all the lovely salty snacks and cheeky glasses of celebratory bubbles you are no doubt dehydrated. So get into the habit of drinking the recommended six or eight 8-ounce glasses of water per day. Pop an alert on your phone or keep a bottle in your bag. Not only will your skin thank you for it but you might be able to flush out some of those toxins and rid yourself of that sluggish feeling.

Be around positive people Oh dear, the January bank balance is looking a bit bleak and pay day is way out in the distance. No one wants to stride into a new year with the prospect of limited socialising and lack of fun times. Reign in the spend and plan some cheap and cheerful activities that wont break the bank … invite your favourite people for a PJ party complete with 80s classic film (Dirty Dancing obvs), borrow someone’s dog and spend the day teaching it tricks/cuddling it or head to the seaside and blow away the cobwebs with a big blustery walk.

Nail your night time routine We all need a good deep sleep to feel refreshed, it’s not exactly rocket science. However, it can be more easily said than done, so we recommended taking a little time before bed to relax, unwind and get ready for some serious Zzzz. Whatever washes away the day for you, be it a bit of yoga, putting on your fave PJs, a good book or a bubble bath then head to bed a little earlier and make some time for you.

Smile, even when you don’t feel like it A recent study showed how forced smiling for a period of time before undertaking a stressful task actually lowers heart rate levels and participants felt less stress after the activities. So the next time you are feeling a bit stressy (perhaps the new boss has an outrageous deadline request or you’re on the verge of a ‘ive got nothing to wear’ tanty meltdown)  stop for a second and force a big stupid smile from ear to ear.. it might change your day!

Walk It off It’s easy to get into a couch potato rut over the holidays, especially when the weather is bad outside and the lovely cozy sofa is so inviting. By getting some fresh air and a little exercise each day you will really feel the benefit by the time the end of January comes. Aim to hit that 10,000 steps per day with a lunch time walk or evening stroll. We highly recommend some of 2017’s top mystery podcasts to give you that push to go out. ‘Missing Richard Simmons’, ‘Serial’ and ‘S-Town’ are a few good ones, you’ll be in such a hurry to hear the next episode you’ll be happy to pull on your trainers and head out for a walk.

Have a clear-out     There’s nothing more therapeutic than a clear out, the physical act of getting rid of clutter can also help spring clean the mind clutter too, making you feel a bit more mellow. When someone says clear-out its easy to picture yourself manically throwing your belongings into a giant skip but if you can take the day to organise thoughtfully you might feel more productive/awesome. remember to make sure you donate, reuse, re-purpose or recycle anything that you can.
