Vegan gift guide for Valentine's Day

Valentine’s Day 2018 is fast approaching and we know that the idea of finding the perfect gift for that special person in your life can seem pretty stressful.

There’s that old saying that you can never go wrong with a box of chocolates, and while that’s probably true in a lot of cases, when the love of your life is vegan, or has other dietary requirements, things might not be that simple.

Here at Sage and Stars we’re passionate about supporting animal welfare and the environment, while also being able to treat yourself to the finer things in life. So we’ve put together a Valentine’s Day 2018 Vegan Gift Guide to inspire you.

Clothing, shoes and accessories

Ethical fashion is often just as important to people who are vegan as what they do and do not eat. If you haven’t been with your partner very long and aren’t vegan yourself, knowing where to shop for sustainable fashion might seem a bit daunting at first - but don’t worry. We have lots of ideas to guide you and make you feel inspired. These are just some of the products and brands that make vegan-friendly, ethical or sustainable clothes

Nightwear

Of course we couldn’t put this gift guide together without mentioning our own lovely  Sage and Stars handmade silk robes, which are produced in UK with fair trade, organic fabrics, such as bamboo silk. Our beautiful blush rose coloured Celaeno Robe is dyed using birch bark. We happen to think they’re rather lovely.

Shoes

For some people, nothing makes them feel more confident or sexy than an amazing pair of shoes. While leather and wool may be off-limits there are some UK brands that produce some stunning footwear that would make anyone feel special if they got them as a gift. Beyond Skin make 100% cruelty-free, vegan shoes and trainers to suit every style.

Jewellery

Everyone loves jewellery, but why not go the extra mile and take the time to get something handmade and bespoke to them.

Food and Drink

Vegan Chocolates

While you might have to be a bit more careful about the chocolates you buy for the vegan in your life, vegan chocolates are available to buy on the UK high street as well as online. Hotel Chocolat have a range of vegan products, from chocolates to coca tea and drinking spirits. Ombar is another range of chocolate we can't get enough of, found in health food shops, Wholefoods, Ocado and their online store. It's raw, organic and luxurious, the perfect indulgence without any guilt.

Obviously, if you’re buying chocolates and you’re not familiar with vegan-friendly products or ranges, be sure you check the packing for an ingredients list.

Vegan cooking classes

Eating out when you’re vegan can be difficult sometimes, so why not surprise your other half by going to some vegan cooking classes so that you can cook them a nice romantic meal at home. You could even go as a couple and make cooking a fun activity that you both do together.

Bubbles and Fizz

Being vegan doesn’t mean that you have to miss out on the indulgence of having champagne, or worrying about denting the wall when you pop the cork either. Did you know that you can buy it from UK supermarkets. English sparkling wine is becoming one of Britain's favourite tipples. Harrow and Hope is definitely one of ours, their vineyards are located in Marlow, Buckinghamshire and their wines are vegan, they don’t use any fining agents and try to be as sustainable as possible in their vineyards (using organic nutrition instead of herbicides).

Other gift ideas

Go on a weekend break

Not all couples like to get each other gifts on Valentine’s Day, and that’s okay. The occasion is supposed to be about making time to do something special for or with the one you love. Instead of getting presents you could have a weekend away in a nice bed and breakfast that caters for vegans. You could either book it as a surprise or decide where to go together.

Flowers with a difference

Flowers can make a lovely gift for people who care about animals and the environment. Of course, you could pick up a bunch at your local florist or supermarket, but you could also get them a flower gift subscription. Flower gift subscriptions mean that the recipient would get a bunch of flowers delivered to their house on a monthly basis for however long you choose. They really are the gift that keeps on giving.
